What we publish
ModernLawOffice is an independent guide for solo and small-firm attorneys on the practical side of running a law office: the physical space, practice software, and AI tools. Our guides are written for working lawyers who need a straight answer they can act on.
We publish practice-management and technology information. We do not publish legal advice, and nothing on this site creates an attorney-client relationship. Rules on advertising, trust accounting, entity formation, confidentiality and AI use differ by jurisdiction. Where they matter, we say so and point you to your state bar and the primary source.
How we research
We start from primary sources wherever they exist: ABA Model Rules and formal opinions, state bar guidance, court decisions, statutes, and vendors’ own documentation and pricing pages. Secondary sources are used for context, not as the basis for a factual claim.
We do not invent statistics, prices, features, testimonials, case results or user counts. If we cannot verify a number, we leave it out or describe the range honestly and tell you to confirm it with the vendor or your bar.
How we use AI
We use AI tools to help research, outline and draft our guides, much as we recommend attorneys use them: as an assistant, not an authority. Drafts are checked against primary sources before they are published. Facts that cannot be verified are cut.
Our AI coverage applies the same standard to ourselves that ABA Formal Opinion 512 applies to lawyers: competence in the tool, verification of the output, and responsibility for the final result.
Independence and money
Some links to software vendors are referral links. If you sign up through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That never changes what we write. Vendors cannot pay for a ranking, a review, a better verdict or inclusion in a comparison, and we do not accept payment to remove criticism.
Keeping guides current
Legal technology changes quickly. Each guide shows the date it was last updated. Pages that track fast-moving topics, such as AI tools, AI-related sanctions, and state bar AI guidance, are reviewed on a regular cadence and record what changed. Product details are date-stamped because vendors change pricing and features without notice.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it. Material corrections (anything that could change a decision you make) are noted on the page with the date of the change. To report an error, email support@modernlawoffice.com with the page address and what you believe is incorrect. Vendors may also contact us to correct factual details about their products. That does not extend to changing our opinion of them.
